Role of Town Planners in greening the environment
of Hong Kong:
Our
members, employed by the HKSAR Government, statutory bodies (e.g.
Urban Renewal Authority, MTRC etc.) and private consultant firms
are involved in planning duties and tasks of various types which
contribute to the making of Hong Kong into a greener city. Work
examples include the followings:
Inclusion of green spaces in master
planning of new development areas
Planners are heavily involved in the land use planning of new
development areas including new towns and newly reclaimed areas.
Green spaces including open spaces and amenity areas are key elements
that help to make the area a better place to live, work and enjoy.
Designation of open spaces and amenity
areas in land use planning
Designation of open spaces and amenity areas in our planning mechanism
helps to secure green spaces for a more balanced environment.
Inclusion of green space in urban
renewal projects
Owing to the difficulties in securing new green spaces in the
urban developed areas, the inclusion of green open spaces in urban
renewal projects has become a new opportunity for greening the
urban hub of Hong Kong.
Promotion of better urban design
guidelines including the protection of our ridgelines Planners are also involved in promoting a better urban design
of Hong Kong including the protection of our ridgelines.
