The 2002 Hong Kong Flower Show

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) presented the 2002 Hong Kong Flower Show at Victoria Park from 8 to 17 March with "Hong Kong in Full Blossom" as its theme and Garden Petunia as its theme flower. It is the third time that LCSD organized this annual horticultural event, which is the biggest in the territory. The Flower Show attracted the patronage of a record of 560 000 visitors and the participation of 100 horticultural organizations, private firms and Government departments from the territory, the Mainland and overseas countries. In addition to the displays of beautiful flowers, artistic floral arrangements and landscape gardens of great aesthetic value, the Show also provided a wide range of fringe activities that were both educational and recreational, covering horticultural seminars, floral art demonstrations, music and cultural performances, drawing competition for students, photographic competition, leisure activities, games for children and guided visits. It filled all visitors to their hearts' content.

To tie in with the promotion of tourism by the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Flower Show also featured a series of programmes with oriental flavour such as "Tai Chi Morning Exercise" and Flower Tea Tasting", the objective of which was to enable overseas visitors to appreciate the rich cultural life of Hong Kong while they feast their eyes on the exquisite plant exhibits.
